Poor Ol' Morley, more dental woes

Morley has another abscessed tooth.   It has been only 6 months from our last dental.  Tomorrow the poor fella' get all of his teeth extracted.
What do I feed?   I bought the usual " sick" food of hamburger, rice,& cottage cheese .   I thought that would tide him over until healing occurs.  I also am making those fat balls, satin balls.   How about hot dog pieces for treats?

I bought the tiny tiny kibble for toy dogs.  Can that be mixed with canned?.   Should I take his regular dry food and put it in the food processor/ blender?
The Vet said that he will get use to regular food after healing but I am really shy.    Any  suggestions are appreciated.     Jan  and the soon to be toothless, Morley

Poor Morley

Our friends have a little broodie who had all but six teeth extracted and they fed her ground turkey/chicken and mashed veggies I believe for a couple of weeks and then soaked her kibble to a soft texture until her gums were healed, worked fine. Hugs to Morley.

Poor baby!  I think Terry's suggestions are very good, and believe it or not, he will be able to eat the harder stuff after everything heals.  For now, I would give him soft treats such as those Carry Out type or you can make your own by modifying the baking/cooking time to keep them soft.

Hugs to Morley!

Poor Baby!

When Vonni, The Ancient One lost all her teeth, she ate just regular kibble. Frankly, she never chewed anyway, so she would just swallow it. Howevver, I would get her small, soft treats and make sure she had plenty of soft toys to "gum" Tee Hee

Soaking the kibble in warm

Soaking the kibble in warm water for a few minutes is a good idea. Just remember, better to have no teeth than bad teeth. They manage better than you'd imagine.

Morley

No suggestions from me.  Just a big hug for Morley.  We have not experienced that yet with any of our hounds.  I think Dixie is heading in that direction.  When we took her in for her shots, the vet just looked at her teeth and said that she is almost ready for another dental.  She had her last dental less than 6 months ago.

Morley is doing well

He came home a little woozy from the Vets , he drank but had no appetite and went sound to sleep.  We got up this morning he ran outside and did his duty.  He barked a little and came in to a home made soft diet.  He ate everything ( 1/2 of it falling our of the sides of his mouth).  Thank goodness we have Joyce here for crumb clean up.   Except for a case of escaped tongue, he looks good and appears to be doing well.   Thanks everybody,  I was a little scared for my boy.    Jan, Morley says Hi.

I am so glad Morley is

I am so glad Morley is feeling better and eating!  I am sure that he was still feeling the affects of the anesthesia and just needed to sleep it off.  Prayers that he will continue to progress!

Get well Morley

I hope Morley is feeling better soon.

We had a old lady who had to have all her teeth pulled  in two seperate appointment. Our vet didn't recomend any thing soft as that could get in the extraction site and cause infection. We used the reg. hard kibble and added warm water so she could lap it up. It worked and she ate that way the rest of her life. We did fien her soft treats after her mouth was healed well.

best of luck to Morley and a speedy recovery,

Debi

Hang in there, Morley

Dear Morley,

Hang in there, buddy!  You will be feeling better soon.  As your Mom to put your favorite dinner of smashed potatoes and steak in a food processor for you.  Merrick makes some kibble that is very small and may be easier for you.  It is "grandma's chicken pot pie".  They also have another one which I think is "beef country stew".  Both of these match up with the canned blends they sell.  Scrambled eggs, cottage cheese, and  hamburger with rice are all good.

I will send your Mom a quick easy recipe for soft treats for you that you will be able to eat.  I found this recipe and made it at Christmas time for our friend, Zeus.

Crossing our fingers and paws for you.

Update with added success

Mr Morley, the toothless one stole Ben's left over breakfast including the kibble.  He kind of traps it in his tongue and the roof of his mouth before swallowing.   I was really babying him with noodle soup and fettucini alfredo.  Turns out he picked his own breakfast.    Really delighted.     Jan

Why would he want dog food over...

Way to go Morley.  Glad you are feeling better.

But why choose dog food over your mom's cooking?  Dixie would take fettucini alfredo over dog food any day

Good wishes for Morley

Glad to hear he's feeling better already!! From our experience with Apollo, they figure it out!! He ate smaller kibble chicken flavor Evo mixed with a few spoons of canned and made moist and then when we switched him to raw he ate ground meats and tripe and I cut up other meats into smaller pieces for him - he never had any problems. He sometimes didn't want to bother with chewy treats so I made a lot of liver brownies (soft texture) and turkey treats (meatloaf texture) for him. I'm sure Morley will adapt quickly - and he will be much happier without all those sore teefies!! Hugs and kisses to him from us!!
